Blogging Insights: Write Like You Talk; If You Can Talk That Is... image

Some of the best advice I gained early on in my blogging experiment was to ‘write like I talk’.

This was signficant for me, as I’m not a professional writer. I wasn’t so sure of myself when it came to proper grammar, or sentence structuring.

I was stuck before I even got started.

This point right here is where many people get stuck. They don’t get pass this intersection right here; maybe it’s’ too scary, or they just don’t feel like they can gain the necessary skills that are required to become a successful blogger or writer.

Well you can talk, can’t you?

Once my focus moved from, “how do I properly write sentences that won’t make me look like I’m five,” to, “write like I talk,” writing became a whole lot easier for me.

I may not be the best writer, but I know how to talk with the best of them… And when I stared to write like I talked, it became easy to throw down some paragraphs.

Breaking The Rules

For instance, I found that long structured paragraphs, (which were preferred by my writing instructor in school) are unnatural, and don’t flow like normal converstations do. When I run across this writing style, I’m gone in about 10 seconds.

When you start to write what you want to say, your sentences will be shorter, to the point and more personalized.

Your written words will reach out and grab the attention of your readers because your speaking directly to them, instead of writing carefully crafted words at them.

It’s All in the Packaging

When you wrap your content with your personality, it’s the only place on web where people can get the total customer experience (product/ service/ and you) that you serve up to the marketplace.

This is good for business longevity, brand recognition, and expanding your market/ product lines, or both if you so desire.

People Buy You

This is hugely important for you to understand, because while quality content/ products/ services will always be an important factor in attracting customers to your business; your personality is just as important…

And here’s why; people do business with people they like, and if you can’t connect with people quickly and effectively on the social web, they’ll move on to the next professional who can effectively connect with – and move them.

The more you can interject your personality into your content, the better response and overall results you will acheive.

The best way I’ve found to do that is to write like I talk.
