(I hijacked the photo from Dave McClure's blog :)

Passionate people are extra-ordinary and that is precisely what most bloggers want to be. The one thing that can take your blogging efforts to another level is passion. Be real. Be you. Show everyone what makes you tick.

Passion moves people
– It emotionally connects with readers and draws them into the emotion of the writer.

Passion trusts – it only comes through in things you truly believe in.

Passion is infectious – it spreads like wildfire to others who are passionate about the subject.

Passion connects people – it’s the spark that leads to meaningful relationships, changes lives and makes dreams come true.

Passion is personal – personal experiences and stories that expose to readers who you really are.

Passion is relevant – it brings important issues to life so all who participate in the conversation can learn, grow and get answers for their life.

Passion isn't work - it's a labor of love that you simply can't stop thinking about.

Passion makes all the difference – when you're doing things you're passionate about, it changes you and those you're connected to. It makes you more productive, more capable and more proficient and able to help others do the same.

Passion can change the world - one dose of passion has more power in it than 1,000 hours of work. It packs a powerful punch that transcends mediocrity and the ordinary.

What happens is you'll find your passion is not exclusive. There are other like-minded people who are passionate about the same things you are. The great thing about this is that everyone doesn't have the same life experience, so connecting and sharing like passions only broadens and strengthens the core as a whole.

Build a tribe of passionate people around anything and watch the miracle of passion change the world.

Are you passionate about what you blog about?

    Hey Mark!

I could not imagine blogging about topics I was not interested in, my motivation would be 0%. So sure I have a passion for the articles I write about!

    Thanks for sharing. :)

    • http://markharai.com Mark Harai

Hey Phil, I appreciate you sharing a piece of your mind here. I think many folks try too hard or can’t figure out what to blog about. Passionate writing is not a prevalent as one might think.

It sounds like you’re on the right track – I’m off to check out your blog… hope to see more of you in the blogosphere – cheers : )

  • http://www.webguide4u.com Vivek Parmar

That’s a great article. I always follow this rule and it helps me a lot. Blog for passion not for money.

    • http://markharai.com Mark Harai

Hey Vivek – thanks for stopping by… follow your passions and the money will take care of itself.

It’s funny, but if when you do things for the right reasons, resources become plentiful.

Cheers to you Vivek : )

If you don’t blog with passion you might as well close up shop. You don’t have to hit a home run every time, but you need to try.

    • http://markharai.com Mark Harai

      Ooh, I like that Jack!

You’re so right man — step up to the plate and swing for the fence Haha!

      I appreciate you sharing here!

BTW, I love your profile description on DISQUS… and yes, I’m off to check out your blog (s) ??

Passion is what keeps you going. Retweeted.

    • http://markharai.com Mark Harai

Indeed Chris – it does keep you going, and going, and going.

Passion is the one ingredient that make successful people successful. So many folks quit before they start to the rewards for their efforts.

Passion is what gets you there.

Keeping in mind, those who follow their passions to success are a very small percentage of the whole.

      Cheers Chris!

The point that really stands out for me from the list is “passion is personal”. There’s been a lot of buzz around the blogosphere over the past few days about a few popular posts that get really personal. And I guess to your point…the buzz is a result of the personal nature of those posts. It stirs people’s emotions and gets them talking.

But I find that many people (including myself) have a hard time figure out exactly what their passion(s) is/are. Because in my mind interests and passions are not the same thing…and it is difficult to differentiate the two. I guess passions have a longer lasting effect, and interests can fade away.

    What do you think?

    • http://markharai.com Mark Harai

Hi Eugene, thanks for this thoughtful reply.. it still has me thinking : )

I think interests and passions are the same thing. If you read two articles on the same subject written by two different people, lets say it’s about cars – one writer isn’t very interested in cars, but does some good research to write a thoughtful article and the other loves, lives, and breathes cars, the two articles will be much different.

I bet I know which article would bring out the richness of cars that would resonate with other car lovers. You would too.

It’s just a matter of communicating openly [passionately] about things your interested and knowledgeable about. People need to feel you.

Thanks for stopping by Eugene – it’s much appreciated : )

    Hi Mark,
Passion and work is a great topic. Doing something you are passionate about is not work, as you say so rightly, it’s a labor of love.
When you love you don’t count, you put in the hours, the sweat the tears and the fuel for all this is your passion.
Passion is our fuel for success Mark, keep the passion flowing and great stuff will come.
Love how you bring it together with the passion in a group.Having passion not just for your work but for helping others gain success is the beauty of it.

    Have a great day Mark

    • http://markharai.com Mark Harai

Thanks for this thoughtful comment John.

I do believe we are connected to the most passionate bloggers on the web. I’ve seen you on just about every blog I’ve visited today and there’s a movement… there’s something building, I can feel it.

Enjoy a nice glass of wine for both of us this evening sir : )

      • http://www.expatlifecoach.com/blog John Falchetto

        Had a beautiful wine tonight.
Yes there is something building my friend. Once you’re in you can’t get out :)

  • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

    OH my Mark,

That’s like asking me if I like Nestle’s Crunch (the white crispy kind) or sunset’s at the beach lol ;) .

Hell yeah, I’m passionate. There’s no other way to blog!

I couldn’t possibly imagine writing about something that doesn’t interest me. Imagine talking about a subject that bores you? It’s like writing a dissertation on underwater basket weaving when you don’t care to weave. Okay – a poor example – but you get the drift hehe ;) .

I went into blogging because I love to write. Simple as that!

I think passion is one of the greatest motivators for doing what we do – that’s assuming you love what you do and you get some kind of reward (whatever and however it may be) from doing it.

But I think when it comes to blogging – passion needs a little help along the way. It needs common sense, marketing, social skills and a few other boosters that will make the ride even more fun and worth it.

I forget who said this but it goes a little something like this “do something you love and you’ll never work another day in your life.”

I was a damn good athlete because I dreamed about playing every night before I went to sleep. I dreamed of being great. I loved the game – any game I played.

I pretty decent writer because I just can’t picture going a day without writing something down. It’s how I express myself.

Passion is why you want tomorrow to get here so quickly, when in fact you don’t want time to pass. Does that make sense?

Awesome piece Mark! Thanks for sharing.
    Cheers

    • http://markharai.com Mark Harai

The inspirational one — yes Ingrid, I know your passionate – I think everyone who knows you knows you are one passionate lady!

It’s your passion that sets the bar so high. Yes you have some skill and writing chops et al – but it’s your passion that defines who you are. Passion rolls off your pen.

It shows in every post, tweet, comment and share. I would imagine you have some of the most passionate social footprints on web… Seriously. And you really are just getting started.

You have a bright future Miss Ingrid and you will change the world and everyone who’s connected to you. That is pretty cool beans :P

I don’t believe I’ve ever said “cool beans” before, but I wanted it to be special haha!

Cheers to you, all you do and a certain bright future. You kick ass Griddy!

  • http://www.allisondevelopmentgroup.com Erica Allison

Mark, you are the bomb! Passion to infinity and beyond. Once again, you’ve inspired not just me, but from the comments below, many others.

I have to say that I’m one passionate individual. Whether it’s about blogging, my kids, my business, a project, or what’s for dinner (yes, that too – I totally screwed up our meal tonight and you would have thought I’d lost a client). I only do what I’m passionate about. Ask my husband. If I’m not ‘fired up’ about it, I’ll find any reason in the world not to do ti. If I am ‘fired up’, watch out.

    Thanks, Mark!

    • http://markharai.com Mark Harai

      Hi Erica : )

There is so much passion in the various blog communities we’re mutually part of, I feel like we all could explode at any moment.

I’m just thankful to be connected to some of the most gifted folks on the web, including you Erica… Thank you for going out of your way to make my day.

Cheers to you… (BTW – loved your vid on effective communications)

Ah wow Mark, you’ve really produced something special here! I love your writing angle, you cut straight to the point whilst providing enough insight for the reader to feel content.

I’ve struggled at times with passion, trying to get my motivation levels up when I know, deep down, that what I’m doing isn’t right for me. It’s natural to feel more motivated when you’re passionate about something, when you’re pumped up and ready to fight the good fight in the name of others.

Passion is unlimited fuel. We get all the drive we need from doing something we’re passionate about. Otherwise we’re running on empty, spluttering and choking, no matter how hard we try and drive somewhere, anywhere, that’s decent.

Thanks for the insight into your genius mind :-)

    • http://markharai.com Mark Harai

Hi Stu – great to see you this AM : )

I’ve never read anything you’ve produced that lacked passion. You are one passionate dude and I’m thrilled to be connected with you.

I have a confession; my social media/blogging motivations are a bit selfish. Yes I want to provide value to others and serve others… But mostly I want to be better. I want to grow. I want to learn and be more effective and capable.

I only follow people who I can learn from. People who move me. People who have more talent in their little pinky toe than I have as a whole. That is my strategy to improve : )

So, I follow and connect with people like you. Easy.

I hope nobody else reads this reply… cat’s out of the bag!

      I appreciate you Stu!

  • http://hustlersnotebook.com Jk Allen

Greetings Mark! One thing for sure is that I love the overtone of the messages you share with us in your ever-growing community. It’s great!

I’m not a writer by trade. And I’m not even a good writer by practice. But I am a blogger. With that being said – when I write about things that I have no passion for, such as business letters and memos – my writing is very bland, lacks emotional draw and doesn’t captivate an audience very well. But on the blogging end, I write only what I’m passionate about…this keeps the ideas coming as I write and helps keep readers in tune with the message.

I think it’s the only way to blog…at least for me. It’s what keeps readers coming back, subscribing and finding a bond with The Notebook. I wear it on my sleeve!

The more passion I’m able to emit, the more the audience grows.

Thank you for the reminder Mark. I don’t questions this of you one bit. It’s evident that passion is your fuel.
Thank you – have a great day!

    • http://markharai.com Mark Harai

Good morning Jk… I appreciate the pep talk here bro.

I really like how you differentiate writing from blogging. I’ve never looked at it that way before and now I’m saying to myself “I can be a blogger!”

Little things like this make all the difference Jk!

Thanks for taking the time to enlighten me this AM : )

  • http://twitter.com/rachnaspace rachnaspace

Absolutely agree! Passion keeps one *alive*!

    • http://markharai.com Mark Harai

      Hi Rachna!

It’s pretty cool to have the queen of awesomenia, ruler of awesomesauce, mayor of awesometown here to comment.

I hope I get the opportunity to get to know you better… Sounds like you got an early start :)

I was just riding bikes and throwing rocks at 10!

Yes, I was always in trouble :P

Keep the fire burning – cheers to you Rachna :)

Passion isn’t work – it’s a labor of love that you simply can’t stop thinking about.

You can’t sit at your desk at 1am when the rest of your time zone is asleep, slapping at the keys for your next post….unless passion is your core motivator.

    That’s simply how it works.

    Incredibly well said Mark.

    Marcus

    • http://markharai.com Mark Harai

I learn a lot about passion and blogging in general from you Marcus.

Love your work and appreciate your support.

Have I mentioned that you’re pure GOLD?

      If not, I just did : )

You’re a big influence on many people Marcus and really, you’re just getting started… can you see what I see?

Wow, what a great future my man. Your family and friends will be proud.

      Keep kicking ass Mr. Lion!

      • http://www.thesaleslion.com/ Marcus Sheridan,The Sales Lion

To tell you the truth Mark, I’m not sure Lions can kick ;-)

But I’ll take ‘GOLD’ any day of the week my friend.

Jonathan Fields just wrote a great post on whether called `Has passion jumped the shark’ http://www.jonathanfields.com/blog/has-passion-jumped-the-shark/ and I had to agree with several of his points. While I still use the word when I truly mean it I think it has been bandied around far too much in the wrong context which has diluted the essence of this word. In all honesty passion in the dictionary also speaks to violence and anger, any strong emotion.

But I do love what you’re talking about here as it’s inner passion, it’s fire, it’s the reason for being

    • http://markharai.com Mark Harai

Hi Natalie – I had to bounce over and read Jonathan’s post. I get what he’s saying. It’s been used and abused.

Thanks for pointing this out here to me and others. I think this community understands what the word should stand for. There is a tremendous amount of passion in these comments, your’s included.

It does need to be respected a bit more when used though. Its much more than just a buzz word and it must be treated as such.

Thanks for sharing a thoughtful comment Natalie ; )

  • http://easypublicspeaking.co.uk/ Keith Davis

    Hi Mark
Looks as though Marcus has come up with the right phrase for this post…

    “Passion isn’t work – it’s a labor of love…”

Doesn’t always feel like a labour of love, but why else would we do it?

Love the blog Mark – not sure about DISQUS.

    • http://markharai.com Mark Harai

Hi Keith, thanks for stopping by today ; )

I agree… there must be some big love in there somewhere – haha!

I am going to remove DISQUS and go back to native comments. I really liked having CommentLuv on my site so folks could check out the great content being created by others in the community.

I need to get to it and stop thinking about it!

Cheers Keith, will see you soon – I see you all over the blogosphere : )

      • http://easypublicspeaking.co.uk/ Keith Davis

        Hi Mark
Native comments with the GASP and Akismet plugins sort out most of the spam – but not trackbacks!

Yes… I stop in at a few blogs, but only the best. LOL

        Cheers Mark

  • http://ariherzog.com Ari Herzog

I nodded along until your second-to-last sentence. Sorry, but I agree with the so-called Seth Godin dogma that your tribe already exists and you need to recognize you need to step up and be their leader.

It’s a waste of time to build your tribe.

    • http://markharai.com Mark Harai

I like your interjection here Ari – it presupposes everyone has the capacity to be a leader and if you’re going to blog, that is a great mindset to blog with.

I would say to lead anything, you need to have much to offer. There are some really intelligent, creative folks out there just cranking out some amazing content.

Here’s where just putting yourself out there and being ‘you’ can provide the biggest boost for your efforts. Blogging is about people and personalities connecting in meaningful ways. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to do this, you do however need to display some personality.

I keep getting ideas from your comments Ari – I appreciate you and thanks for all you do in the community.

      Cheers!

  • http://twitter.com/lifeforinstance Life, for instance

    Mark,
I love this! You’ve said as much as can be said about passion! It’s only been recently that I’ve been working with my passion, writing. I was articulating this just yesterday to my niece: before it was as if I was floundering in the water, sometimes sinking, sometimes drifting, often grabbing onto different rafts and flotation devices but never feeling like I was getting anywhere. Now suddenly it’s as if I’ve caught a current and it’s carrying me along and I don’t even need a flotation device because I’m floating on my own. The best part about working with my passion – I’ve never been happier.

You ask, “Are you passionate about what you blog about?” As far back as I can remember I was trying to work out this thing called Life! I think it warrants closer examination, don’t you? I LOVE looking at it through the lenses of other people’s views. So the answer is yes. Thanks for asking!
    Lori

    • http://markharai.com Mark Harai

Hi Lori… thanks for stopping in on a Monday morning… a nice dose of inspiration, thank you.

And, I think we’re floating down the same river! I love the analogy, it brought back many rafting trips over the years : )

Your question is a very wise one too. A resounding “absolutely! is my answer. I’m constantly learning everyday by looking by through lenses of other people’s view’s, many of which are in this comment stream.

I think the key to fulfillment and happiness is participating in things you’re passionate about. Thats true for life and business. It’s no longer work, but rather a labor of love.

I hope to see more of you in the community Lori – cheers to you!
